DJ 2rip presents “Sacral” [3 hour mix!!]

DOWNLOAD

This mix serves many purposes. The first & foremost is that there is a lack of widely publicized deep music out there. This mix was designed to be something that you could listen to while at work, relaxing at home, meditating, giving someone a massage, having intercourse, or sleeping.

The name of the mix is “Sacral” like the second energy chakra of the body. This chakra holds the key to how we relate to the external world, including sexual powers. There is a correlation between mental well-being and sexuality. The journey of this mix starts off very deep with ethereal synths to provide for relaxing melodies to help let your conscious mind float away. The second half of the mix features emotional & vocal tracks & rhythms which I attribute to being with someone that you hold an attraction to either mentally, physically or in a relationship sense.

The length of the mix is about 3hours & 15 minutes. It was a large undertaking going through all of these tracks and putting them in a comprehensive order to meet this vision I had. I hope you’ll be kind enough to post comments on my Facebook wall at www.facebook.com/thedj2rip to let me know how you feel about this mix.

BTK interview on KMag

source

Hailing from Brazil but now based in Switzerland, BTK is a drum & bass DJ, producer and label owner of Dutty Audio. With numerous big releases coming in 2012 we decided to catch up with him to get the lowdown…

You’re originally from Brazil but now reside in Switzerland, how did you end up there?
Yes, I was touring Europe in 2007 for the second time when Jonas Blokhe4d, who at that time was living in Zurich, invited me to come and visit for a few days. Cheese, chocolate, a lovely country, stunning girls and a very healthy drum & bass scene were pretty much the reasons that made me stay.

Most of your collaborations seem to be with Optiv, how did this partnership come about and how does your work with him differ from your solo material?
Well, the fact that we live in the same country, both use Cubase and we always have lots of fun working together, helped to keep the good flow of collaborations going. Our first tune was Crawler and at this very moment we both hope that won’t be our last. I did a few solo tunes in the past, Drop It was my biggest release until now and it’s cool to see something that you did alone being this well accepted in the scene but, all in all, I find it boring working alone in the studio.

Your first release of 2012 is the Over The Edge EP with Optiv on Renegade Hardware, tell us a bit more about the tracks on it and how they came about…
It all started with a remixes EP that didn’t happen. Optiv and I had the Forcefield remix done, heavy support from Ed Rush and Audio on that one, but the idea that the tune would never be released was sad.

Scott [Cold Fusion] mentioned that he was putting another various artists EP on Hardware and asked us for a new tune. I sent him Over The Edge, convinced him that it is the next Messiah on the dancefloor and came up with the idea of an Optiv & BTK EP separate release.

Some say that End Run has that Virus vibe because of the techno stabs and action break in it, meanwhile Insight is a deep roller. We’re very proud of this project and I personally would like big up Ink and Scott who are taking care of the label and definitely putting Renegade Hardware back on the map.

You also have 12″s with Optiv coming on Demand and Frequency, what can you tell us about those releases?
Demand is a label which I have lots of love and respect for. They had a very special tune I did called Things I Do as their first release and I’m always happy to work with them. Our next single will be Jackknife / Menace Part 2 and it’s coming out in March.

The Frequency release, Zero Hour / Berserker, will be the second Optiv & BTK on the label following the same big dance floor vibes as our last one, Let It Hit Em / Mind Over Matter. The tracks have received really good promotion and support from Andy C.

You’re also working on an album with Optiv, what can you tell us about it at the moment?
We finished a few tunes and sent to Ed Rush & Optical for proper feedback on those. For now we’re just writing lots of beats and when we have a solid eight to ten tracks we will move forward to wrap it up. No rush to get it done or deadline for an exact release date at the moment.

Done any interesting remixes recently?
Yes, I did a solo remix of one of my favourite Cause4Concern tracks, Paranormal, and it shouldn’t take long to be released. Optiv and I have also remixed The Upbeats’ Big Skeleton, coming out this year on NonVogue. Hopefully for this year, I’ll have a few more remix offers, it’s nice to have the opportunity to twist someone else’s idea.

What’s happening with your Dutty Audio label this year?
It’s slowly growing, recently I saw that the last release, Whatever with Optiv, finally made it to Beatport’s Top 10, which is definitely a big look for the label. I haven’t got the next release planned yet, but the label is always open for demos.

Where can we see you DJ next?
Here’s a quick list of what I’ve got confirmed for this year:
Jan 20 – Marley Club, Ostrava, Czech Republic
Jan 21 – Subclub, Bratislava, Slovakia
Feb 18 – Volks Club, Brighton, UK
Feb 25 – Area Club, London, UK
Mar 02 – Unsichtbar, Saarbrücken, Germany
Apr 06 – Hasselt, Belgium
Apr 14 – Ubu, Rennes, France
Apr 27 – Fluc, Vienna, Austria

Got any new years resolutions you can share with us?
I’ve been planning on joining the gym close to where I live, quit smoking, visit my family in Brazil and also beat up DJ Ink more often on Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition for PS3.

What are you looking forward to in 2012?
More parties, more releases, more money, more bitches, golden chains, holidays in Acapulco, finishing Batman Arkham City and for Blizzard to finally release Diablo 3.

Anything else you want to tell us about?
For bookings contact butoke@gmail.com and submit demos for Dutty Audio on AIM to duttyaudio.

Edward Oberon & Paul T 'Love Is' / 'Absolute' Mars Recordings [MARS003]

Edward Oberon & Paul T 'Love Is' / 'Absolute' Mars Recordings [MARS003] by stholdings

Released on Jan 23rd: For our third installment on Mars Recordings we've decided to go for Green Vinyl! This has nothing to do with Aliens, we wouldn't be that obvious, but it's the colour chosen by the artists and we think it looks like another great Mars package.
Musically, well Edward Oberon & Paul T have conjured up 2 awesome tracks. "Love is" is absolutely sublime with it's warm bass line and delicate sounds to the breakdown, while keeping the drums nice and punchy, a great tune to roll out. "Absolute" harks back to the deep sounds of old Good looking by the likes of Big Bud or Tayla. Ridiculous sub-lo bass and deep strings, this is how Mars do things and we feel it's another quality 12" where the music & the packaging matters.

Gridlok KMag Interview - Jan 2012

source

We catch up with Gridlok to talk about his work with Blokhe4d on Bad Taste, his Project 51 record label and his recent release on Commercial Suicide.

Your two tunes with Blokhe4d have been released on Bad Taste and Hospital, but how did you end up working with them?
The first time I met Vegas was when he came to Miami with Fresh as Bad Company. We'd bumped into each other a bunch since then and always got along well. When he started doing Blokhe4d with Jonas we talked about linking up in the studio and made it happen on my last European tour!

How is the production process different when collaborating with a group that already consist of two people?
They obviously have their chemistry and I was this rogue entity coming into the picture. But we are all seasoned vets so it's all good switching it up sometimes. That's what collaborations are for! SWWWIIITCHHH!!!

In what ways do you think the tracks show your style and which do you think elements show Blokhe4d's?
We kinda layered the vibe of my beats with theirs and I think you can hear it in both tunes. It's got that funk break element to it but also Blokhe4d's power drums. Musically I think they are more melodic than usual for me and less melodic than usual for them, so we kinda met in the middle with a melodic feel but with dark notes. These tunes really are a hybrid!

The storming Bad Kat is already out on Bad Taste Recordings, can you tell us what the inspiration for that track was?
Well, I can tell you how the name came together! Everything was going great with the tune. We were taking a break and I decided to grab my phone. Their new kitten had decided to run amuck and knocked a potted plant five feet down onto my phone. It was shattered and I was pissed. When you are half way around the world it feels unsettling to not have your phone with you! So there was definitely this cloud over our heads for the remainder of the session and so we decided to name the tune after the little bastard!

Q-BiK interviewed by X-Press Magazine (Perth)

source

Q-BIK
For The Love Of Drum’n’Bass

Q-BIK, aka PJ Ehsani, is a massive Sons Of Anarchy and Breaking Bad fan. He also loves reality TV shows concerning deadliest cats on National Geographic – something he got into whilst touring America and Europe over the last two years. ANNABEL MACLEAN chats with the Perth based drum’n’bass producer ahead of his gigs at Southbound and Big Day Out.

Q-BIK does not like Asian food but he does have a soft spot for sushi. The Perth based, New Zealand expat has spent the last couple of years showcasing his mad drum’n’bass to fans in Europe, the UK, Canada, America, South America, Asia, New Zealand and across regional Australia. “It’s really hard going to Asian countries - I mean there’s some stuff I eat but a lot of it, I’m not a fan of,” he says down the line from his Perth base. “I think it’s more of the fish sauce stuff and Thai dishes that I’m not really a fan of.”

Having had a “crazy couple of years” on the road and in the air, Ehsani is planning on focusing on production back home in 2012 and scaling back on the touring. Globetrotting has opened several doors for the DJ and producer – his first 12” My House was signed to UK’s Planet Funk Records and gained support from a fair few international big wigs. “It seemed to be very well received by so many different people,” he says of My House, still in awe. “Pete Tong even played it on his Radio One Essential show which really helped and Pete Tong doesn’t play drum’n’bass so that was a massive honour and it certainly opened the doors for me a lot over in Europe and the UK and the USA as well.”

It wasn’t only Europe, America and the UK who were receptive to drum’n’bass, Ehsani did a show in Columbia last year which was massive. “They have such a good thing down there but they don’t have finances or the money to bring over massive, international names,” he says. “But, the scene there is quite big; we had about 500 people in the club that night and I was like ‘really, in Columbia?’.” There were a couple of dodgy moments though – “It was crazy – when we were driving along from the airport to the hotel and the promoter was like ‘ok, in this area we need to lock our doors and roll our windows up’. There were a few times like that… driving home from the gig back to the hotel – our taxi driver was going about 100km down a 50 [kilometre] area running red lights, so I felt a bit uncomfortable then.”

Ehsani recently played to 700 people in Broome alongside Greg Packer and MC Assassin which turned out to be the biggest show Broome’s had in the last year. Geraldton and Karratha are also high up on the ‘best shows’ list for Ehsani but sometimes, punters don’t know how to act at a gig, which is why Ehsani has MC Seeka and MC Xsessiv alongside him for parts of his current national tour. “I’ve been using both of those guys and I’ve worked on tunes for both of them and then I’ve released tunes with both of them so it’s always nice to have an MC when I go on tour,” he says.

“It adds that extra element and the interaction with the crowd and for our type of music, sometimes it’s important – [especially] when you play places like Geraldton and you just play a track and people are like ‘ok, what do I do here’. We played in Kalgoorlie in the middle of the year and that was weird. Nobody really knew what to do – they all just kind of stood there. Maybe we have to play some music videos of people dancing – doing the Melbourne Shuffle or something (laughs).”
