New Release on Futurebound's imprint Viper Recordings : Smooth - Feel So Free / Music Takes Me Higher

source

Smooth - Feel So Free / Music Takes Me Higher

Hot on the heels of the huge ‘Pulse Of Time EP’ by Camo & Krooked (featuring radio smash ‘Nothing Is Older Than Yesterday’) comes the new single from Viper Recordings newest exclusive signing, 25 year old Slovenian uber-producer Smooth.

Having been amongst the first to champion and put out early releases by artists such as DC Breaks, ShockOne, Sigma, Camo & Krooked and Brookes Brothers, Viper Recordings is undoubtedly the home of the freshest new artists in Drum and Bass. When Viper gets behind a new artist, people listen, and Smooth (alongside other Viper new boys Metrik, Furlonge and Genetic Bros) represents the new breed of young talent set to follow previous Viper alumni into the hearts of DnB fans around the world.

When Futurebound started Viper Recordings it was with the aim of shaping a label which was the perfect marriage between dancefloor and headphone pleasure, to put out records which blew up the dance while maintaining the musicality which had been squeezed out by the production-by-numbers soulless tech which often threatens to dominate DnB.

No-one exemplifies this more than Smooth, who in less than 12 months has gone from bedroom beat-making to nailing remixes for the likes of John B and Matrix & Futurebound (his 2011 take on the classic ‘Strength 2 Strength’ will feature on the duos upcoming Worldwide 001 mix album) as well as gaining the support of some of the biggest names in DnB, including Pendulum who featured two of his tracks in their recent Radio 1 Essential Mix. Now with an exclusive deal with Viper under his belt, this single gives a mouthwatering sample of what is going to come in 2011 from one the world’s hottest new production talents.

DJ Support for this single from: Loadstar, Pendulum, Brookes Brothers, High Contrast, Danny Byrd, Matrix & Futurebound, TC, ShockOne, Phetsta and more…

‘Feel So Free’
‘Feel So Free’ is peak set dancefloor euphoria at its very best. For the intro, atmospherics eventually drop away to silence, which is then broken as a disco vocal filters in before a 16 bar bass drum build rolls in, guaranteeing every hand in the air before the drop. Electro base and intricately layered synths and trance arpeggios then weave in and out of the vocal before a second rush inducing breakdown sends the dance into a frenzy. ‘Feel So Free’ is a production masterclass which will get many big name producers wondering how Smooth got so good, so quick.

‘Music Takes Me Higher’
Toughening things up, ‘Music Takes Me Higher’ opens up with rapid-fire double snare drum breaks and speeded up vocals, with distant echoes of the DJ Vibes classic ‘Obsession’. The track then drops with an almighty smash as cascading robotic buzz basslines collide with titanium tough electro drums layered over the continuation of the rolling snare break. This is an absolute dancefloor tearer which plays to the hearts and minds of those who still retain a love for the old school intoxication and exhilaration of the early days of rave.

‘Micro’
Moving on to third track ‘Micro’ (available as a digital only exclusive) you can see the genesis of what is sure to become Smooth’s signature sound – old school breaks, frighteningly tough 2011 production, with euphoric clipped and filtered vocals over mix down perfect bass. ‘Micro’ takes this winning formula off into new directions with future funk warm bass underpinning robo-jazz melodies all rolled together with house style short sampled vocal clips and deeply buried reverbed synths.

Pick up the :: Stunna & Edward Oberon's Lookin' Back and Stunna & Pipeline's Resistance ::
Out Today!!!

View Interview or read it below

LDNB Music is a new liquid drum & bass label launching this month from the people behind the LiquidDNB.com site. We spoke to label owners Forshay and 1981 to get the lowdown.

Please introduce yourself...
I'm Barrie Adams, aka Forshay, I work in web and search engine marketing and run the site LiquidDNB.com and label with Euan, aka 1981. We're both originally from Essex but now based in north London. We both produce dnb with a third member under the name BrokenDrum.

Why have you set the label up?
For a few reasons, mainly out of pure love for the music but also because of the amount of quality music out there unsigned and gathering dust. This made us think we should do something about it and tackle the challenge of running a label. We believe the demand is there for good vibing drum & bass and being in a position with the website and radio show (we play a weekly show on www.Bassdrive.com, Saturdays at 3-5pm GMT) to engage our audience, the label gives us the platform to get this music heard.

What's the ethos behind the label?
Our main aim is to push liquid drum & bass to a wider listening public, we honestly feel this is the best sound dnb has to offer and should be appreciated by more people, so we'll not only target the existing dnb scene, but reach out to people who might just fall in love with it.

Is it a digital label or will you release vinyl too?
We're mainly going to release digitally as we feel this is the format which most people really use, although if the demand is there for a vinyl run and people want it, then why not. We've been hearing a lot about people wanting the Muwookie EP on vinyl so would like to hear from anyone that would want this. Facebook or Twitter is a great way to get your message across.

Can you tell us more about your key artists?
We've signed over 13 artists who are either new to the circuit or have made a name for themselves within the liquid scene. Our first release features Stunna and Edward Oberon who are both top pedigree producers and coming next will be a four track EP by amazing new talent Muwookie.

Are you looking for more artists and if so where should producers send demos?
Yes, we're always scouting for new music and artists for releases, if it's good and suits what we play on our radio shows then people should send it in. The best way to get tracks to us is on AIM (LDNBmusic) or email (demo@LDNBmusic.com).

Tell us more about your first release...
Up first is Stunna & Edward Oberon's Lookin' Back and Stunna & Pipeline's Resistance. Both Stunna and Edward Oberon have been producing amazing music for years, we are delighted to have them on board. Both tunes have deep liquid vibes but also maintain that dancefloor edge and have been receiving heavy play support within the scene. This will be released on 7th February and will be available to buy from all good digital retailers.

Got any other releases in the pipeline you can tell us about?
So far we have got future releases lined up from Clart, Muwookie, mSdoS, BrokenDrum, Command Strange, Smote, Intelligent Manners, MJT, CJ Styles and Londy who are a great bunch to be working with.
