About LUKEINO:
Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Luke Argilla (akaLukeino) got his start with music when he bought his first guitar atthe young age of 13. Flash forward 8 years and he started writing Drum& Bass tunes inspired by SF’s vibrant underground Jungle and DnBscene. As a solo artist Lukeino has released tracks on labels likeLevitated, Rubik, as well as his own Sublife Recordings. His tuneshave been featured on BBC 1xtra, Fuel TV and even the #1 iPhone gameapp Tap Tap Revenge. Around 2007 he met up with the Bachelors ofScience and soon after started collaborating with them on tracks. A fewyears later, after many late nights, and a string of great shows, they invited Luke to be the 3rd official member of the group.
As long-time residents of the weird and always unexpected city of San Francisco, Bachelors Of Science are renowned for mixing up and making unique blends of laid back, tripped-out, soul drenched tracks that are designed to be listened to as well as just heard on the floor.
Choosing quality over quantity, they are regarded as one of the most consistently innovative and sought-after remixers and producers of the area, working with everyone from dance music legends Groove Armada and Paradox to indie darlings Home Video and Silver Swans. With their own productions, the Bachelors continue to defy those that try to categorize them into a genre. From the deep liquid drum n bass inspired by their hometown of London and the likes of High Contrast and LTJ Bukem to the minimal inspired Autonomic sounds ofdBridge and sun-drenched 4/4 grooves inspired by fellow SF locals Dirtybird … the Bachelors have retained their quality and a large and loyal following throughout, garnering plays from Annie Mac, Basement Jaxx, LTJ Bukem, High Contrast, Loxy, Doc Scott, DJ Hype,Reid Speed, Alix Perez, Grooverider and DJ Marky.
Their debut album “Science Fiction” released in 2008 to critical and commercial acclaim, became one of the top selling drum n bass albums of all time, with “Song For Lovers” and “The Ice Dance” becoming liquid drum n bass anthems and the Apex remix of “Strings Track” eventually winning “Best Drum n Bass Track” at the 2009 Beatport Awards. More recent remixes of The XX, Home Video,Death Cab For Cutie, Groove Armada and Seasick Steve have won praise across the music blogoshpere, placing them atop the Hype Machine chart for weeks in a row.
On stage, the tales of the “full Bachelors Of Science set” are the stuff of legend. Having performed alongside acts as diverse asPendulum, LTJ Bukem, High Contrast, Kode9, Photek and even Elvis Costello, the guys take a crowd on a journey with everything from BoS originals and bootlegs to custom edits of cutting edge tracks and past future classics … making d&b guys admit they’ve got a soft spot for 4/4, and house lovin girls admit they miss drum n bass.

The Top 20 Albums of 2011 [DnB Arena]
source
Hi,
There are certain rituals that must occur at the end of each year, shopping for Christmas presents, deciding what to do on NYE and eating way too much, but none ensure quite as much debate and argument as choosing the Top 20 albums to grace our ears from an entire year of big releases.
Well, the D&B fraternity has spoken and we can finally reveal the Top 20 albums of 2011, as chosen by you guys, according to the number of units purchased for each of the albums in our download store.
Also, as a little Christmas treat we are giving away a free track with every order over £10, click here for more details.
#20 - WAY OF THE WARRIOR LP (SHOGUN AUDIO)
Having been at the very top of the D&B game since its inception in 2004, Friction and K-Tee's Shogun Audio mark their 50th release with a compilation that showcases exactly where the label has been and where it is going. 12 tracks of varying styles from the Shogun boys as well as label guests including dBridge and Break along with an album mixtape make this one of the baddest compilations about.
Tune to look out for: Spectrasoul - The Gift
#19 - ORIGINAL SIN - YOU LOVE IT EP (PLAYAZ)
Original dancefloor badboy Original Sin dropped yet another monster of an EP for Playaz earlier in the year. Four more tracks to add to his growing repertoire of tunes that are guaranteed to send any dancefloor into a frenzy with their filthy basslines and dark soundscapes. You always know what you are getting from Original Sin and this EP is a testament to that.
Tune to look out for: Original Badboy
#18 - BASHER - TRANSMISSION LP (RAM)
2011 has been a stand out year for Basher, having enjoyed some of the widest acclaim out of anyone in the scene, this first full length on Ram drops like a mission statement attesting to all the years that Basher has spent harnessing his sound in the studio. By injecting vibes from across the board of current drum and bass (from old skool Ram and Virus flavours to the forward-thinking sounds of Critical and Metalheadz) to form a sound that is all his own, Basher carves out his place in the scene in one seriously well-produced fell swoop.
Tune to look out for: Devotion
#17 - TOTAL SCIENCE & S.P.Y - GHOSTRIDERS EP (CIAUK)
CIA bosses Total Science team up with recent Hospital Records signing, and Brazilian midas S.P.Y to produce an EP that combines their signature sounds of emotional rollers and distorted, unsettling basslines perfectly. 6 tracks of rolling thunder from two of the most prolific producers of quality music in the industry, loving the comic strip inspired artwork too.
Tune to look out for: Magic Hour
#16 - CALIBRE - CONDITION LP (SIGNATURE)
If it had been released earlier in the year there is no question that this would have ranked higher. There are not many superlatives left to use to describe the prodigious talent that is Calibre. This LP is an audio compendium of ear-heroin that only Calibre could produce. Salute the man.
Tune to look out for: People Never Change (feat. DRS)
#15 - ANDY C - NIGHTLIFE 5 (RAM)

LIFTED UPON THE DRUMS [Falinox feature on LessThan3 Blog]
source
In contrast to mainstream music, the EDM world is composed of a tons of smaller labels. This fact drastically alters many aspects of the industry, but in particular it creates the notion of brands of artists backed by a certain label's stamp of approval. One stalwart brand in the drum'n'bass space is the label Lifted, which brought us such heavy hitters as Spor (a.k.a Feed Me), Ewun (a.k.a. Kill The Noise), and Evol Intent. If those names don't stand out to you, click the links and get up to speed! The label has been dormant for a while with its last release dating back to May 2011, but it has returned to unleash upon the world a phenomenal new entrant into the drum'n'bass world: a man by the name of Falinox.
This 22 year-old hails from Joliet, Illinois, about 40 minutes south of Chicago. Before producing drum'n'bass, he fostered his love for electronic music first in the intelligent dance music (IDM) world, following labels like Ghostly and Warp Records. At around the age of 19, he took a swing at dnb production and over timed showed his ability to slam it out of the park, attracting the attention of the industry titans listed above. His most recent release features two incredible tunes showcasing this budding artist's talents. In somewhat true-to-IDM style, Drift Out is fairly atypical in its arrangement, but is musically cohesive in its exploration of progressive elements infused into dnb. Worlds Collide introduces itself via a smooth proggy space journey and periodically ventures into shadowed and uncharted territories before returning back again. Quite an interesting piece.
Despite the obvious stamp of excellence that the previous two tracks have received, it wasn't until I graced Falinox' remix of Seba's Painted Sky that I grasped the enormity of Lifted's recent signing. I'm truly still in shock, struggling to express my thoughts as I hit play for what must be the fifteenth time. What isn't this track? A true cross-breed of genres, this track reaches deep and doesn't let go. It's got beautiful airy vocal samples, piano, dubstep wobbles, and a multitude of other elements that on the surface would seem unfathomable to mix properly, but Falinox has proven otherwise. I can't express how excited I am to hear more from this producer. My hats off to Lifted for another choice pick!

GuestList.net interviews Futurebound - older interview I came across, good one though ;) Enjoy!
source
When it comes to drum & bass, Futurebound really has been there and done that. From 80’s illegal raves, 90’s jungle and the noughties digital revolution, he’s experienced it all firsthand. Now one of the most established DJ/ producers on the scene, Futurebound’s spent decades smashing dance-floors worldwide, as well as developing young talent through his Viper recordings label.
Get ready for a mini-tour through all things drum & bass, past, present and future…
Introduce yourself!
Hi, I’m Brendan Collins, or Futurebound, from Liverpool.
How did you first get into the drum & bass scene?
I used to be a bit of tear-away. I left school at 15 and hung out with some older kids who’d smuggle me along to illegal raves. One was Brave New World, where Sasha was playing. It totally blew me away. From that moment I was hooked on dance music, obsessed even.
I spent years going to illegal raves, they were the best times, when it was really underground still. But I got sick of having to go to random fields to see the likes of Fabio & Grooverider, so I started putting on my own nights in Liverpool.
Back then we were booking people like LTJ Bukem, 4Hero and Goldie, and losing thousands of pounds. Actually, Goldie never got paid – I still owe him for that gig! But we didn’t care cos we were only kids.
Then I got involved in the production side of things. A few of my tunes blew up, like ‘Sorrow’ in the mid-90’s. In fact, Goldie wanted that track for Metalheadz, but I’d already promised it to John Graham (Quivver) and at the time I thought loyalty was the way to go. I probably would’ve got bigger quicker if I’d sold out!
When did you set up Viper recordings?
Starting a label was always my ambition. When I was signed to J Majik’s Infrared label, I found myself doing loads of A&R’ing and realised I was pretty good at it.
Around 2003, I made a track called Pied Piper. I had Dilinja, Andy C, all the big dogs trying to sign it. But I thought if there’s any time to start a label, it’s now – when everyone’s wanting my music. So Viper was born.
Where’s the name Viper from?
Ha I actually ripped it off from Johnny Depp’s club in LA, the Viper Rooms. So big up to Johnny Depp! It’s a cool name, but I’m petrified of snakes!
What have you got planned for the coming year?
I’m playing loads of European festivals, in Prague, Austria, all over. Austria’s going off at the moment.
Label-wise, we’ve got lots of upcoming releases. The new Summer Slammers LP is just out, a Furlonge single, the next Camo & Krooked EP, and I’m personally working on a new Martix and Futurebound album for 2011.
What do you think about the state of dance music at the moment?
I love that it’s all come full circle now, that all the genres have merged and you can play house tracks at a dnb night. If you’d tried that a few years back you’d have been lynched! The dance music scene seems so healthy and vibrant at the moment, it’s great.
I see you’re still repping vinyl when you play out!
Ha yeah, I’m one of last vinyl-ists left, it’s almost become a status symbol now! It’s just what I feel comfortable with, but digital is where it’s at. It’s funny, DJ’s are always moaning that no-one buys vinyl anymore, but then they’re playing with a laptop so what do they expect?!
What are your top tracks at the moment?
I think Noisia are doing some awesome stuff, I love their fucked up sound. Shock One, DC Breaks and Metrik are producing amazing music too. And obviously Sub Focus is a leading light for all of us in drum & bass. He’s a fantastic producer.
What would be your ultimate line-up for a Viper night?
I’d have people right from the start. Frankie Knuckles, Sasha, Andy C, Randall, as well as some newbies like Nero, Sub Focus, all my Viper guys. But we’d have to get everyone totally mashed up so that when Frankie Knuckles comes on after Sub Focus no-one gives a fuck!
What’s been your most exciting moment to date?
Playing next to a beautiful waterfall in Puerto Rico was pretty special. Another one was in Russia when we did a pirate station set for 6,000 people with dancers, pyrotechnics, balloons.
Although for some reason the balloons were really heavy. Just as I dropped my first track one of them smashed me in the face! That brought me down to earth a bit.
And your most embarrassing moment?
A week after Russia I played in a dockers club in Barrow, Inverness, and 25 people showed up. That was embarrassing. And to top it off, someone spilt an entire pint of Stella in my bag and ruined all my records.
Another time was at one of my first big gigs. I took the wrong needle off the decks just as Grooverider walked in… shocker.
Have you got a secret crush?
I used to be mad for DJ Rap. I played after her one night and was trying to be all professional, but I was actually pretty sleazy. She probably thought I was a right weirdo!

From the mouth (hands) of DJ 2RIP:
On Saturday, December 10th some of my good friends at Mushmouth & Slow Kids threw an amazing warehouse rave in Baltimore MD. It was the test party to see if there would be many more to come at this same location. When I walked in to the event I saw a packed room full of hundreds of people. At a glance I would have guessed there to be over 600 people there at 10pm.
B.Rice was playing his signature style of “facemelt” when we arrived. It was a perfectly placed set, with a deep vibe. Not many people know this but B.Rice is one of only a few artists in the entire world that composes and plays this style – and he does it live.
Next up was Malphunktion, who is to you DC area oldskoolers the duo between Ian Denbow & Andrew Prince. They were at one time known exclusively as breakbeat dj’s until they revamped their sound and formed the duo in 2010. Since then they have sought out rare oldskool house music and blended it with new house music to create a diverse style as they alter their sound to create the perfect musical landscape at each and every event that they play.
I was on deck at midnight and was so stoked to play. I’ve been playing show after show and when I’m on tour the crowds tend to expect a certain style from me and when I’m limited to only a 1 hour set I get very pigeon-holed in what it is I need to play. What I love about our local family in Baltimore & DC is that they have been dedicated for so long and have seen me do so many shows that I can afford to experiment each and every time I play locally. Last night I was dead set on bringing progressive house and techno back to the forefront of a peak hour set. This mix was recorded live.

Wickaman & RV - Ev's Dead | Forthcoming on RAM!!!!
Wickaman & RV - Ev's Dead by RAM Records
This track is a slammer and is part of the:
Ram Records’ ‘Dimensions’ series showcases the brightest and best talent the drum & bass scene has to offer, hand-picked by label bosses Andy C and Scott Bourne (Red One). Since its inception, the series has included some of the most recognisable dance floor fillers and now Ram is ready to release the fifth mighty chapter in the Dimensions story.
Rene LaVice may be a new name to some, but ‘Headlock’ is sure to have this exciting producer’s moniker stuck in your head. Mixing subtle melodies and a classic sound, Rene LaVice’s debut Ram release encompasses a nostalgic approach to making fresh D&B that’s destined to move people’s feet.
Cyantific’s hard hitting second outing on Ram Records comes in the form ‘Infinity’, an incredible drum & bass epic packed with winding bass notes, skipping beats and euphoric vocal samples. If this one doesn’t have nightclubs across the globe losing themselves in euphoric 4am moments, we don’t know what will!
Next up is June Miller and the ever so mysterious Secret Handshake Club. Between them they craft the face-meltingly hard ’64 Thousand Dollar Habit’. This one is intensely infused with rock attitude and pounding, unrelenting breakbeats, ensuring utter dance floor mayhem.
Finally, Wickaman & RV give us ‘Ev’s Dead’, a beautiful rendition of rave’s finest sounds brought bang up to date. Grizzled Reese bass notes are splattered with mentasm and echoed vocal samples bringing jungle’s heyday to mind and verifying once more that the Dimensions series really does offer the finest D&B on the block.
Various Artists
A: Rene LaVice - Headlock

Further sneak peak into the music video for Inside Info feat Dj Sw@t (Viper Recordings)
Here is a picture from the video shoot for the Inside Info feat. DJ SW@T music video, “Bottled” set to be released on Viper Recordings Feb 2012, but don’t worry the music video will be out before then ;)
As you can see in the picture we had taken a break from filming and I was explaining the proper way to roast pumpkin seeds… and from the looks of the empty wine bottle on the floor, it took me a while to get to the point.
Stay tuned to:

DJ 2rip – Live mix from Dub Nation on 12/3/11 - DnB/DrumStep/Dubstep
This was recorded live from a show I did with Terravita and Grime Syndicate on December 3, 2011. It was Dub Nation, hosted at U Street Music Hall in Washington DC. That’s the city I’m from and while I set forth to always bring the heat, I’ve done a lot of local shows recently so my set had to be a raging fire.
When I arrived at about 10pm the place had a nice size crowd. There wasn’t much movement on the dancefloor because it was apparent that everyone was warming up for the rest of the night which would rage until nearly 3:00am on a Thursday. Everyone was having a great time socializing and sipping on drinks as Grime Syndicate led into a very solid drum & bass groove. It wasn’t hard or bangin, but the basslines were so deep and tasty you damn near wanted to eat them with a spoon. By the end of their set the crowd was pushing more towards the booth and everyone in the place began to get their groove on.
When I walked into the dj booth, David from GS asked me if I wanted him to fade out so I could do one of my intros. My words were, “Hell no! If you guys are rocking drum & bass then I want to do it too!” Drum & bass was the first genre I ever started mixing back in the 90s. I still throw down an occasional all-dnb mix, but typically I work bits and pieces of it into sets. This mix starts out with a good 15 minute run before leading into a pummeling of drumstep, moombah, and dubstep.
